St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is our tribute to the brawny ink-black beers crafted for the Russian Imperial House in the 18th century. Made from a blend of barley malts infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, it’s aged in bourbon oak, giving it seductive vanilla, espresso and chocolate notes. 341 ml, 9.2% alc./vol.
Alright. So this is the worst one yet. Just my opinion.
I find a hit of caramel that quickly dissolves into the hoppy mess that it a little too bitter for my taste.
I don’t know what the Russians are on about but I cannot taste any vanilla, espresso or chocolate.
Good luck with this one boys!!!
Wow. This poured very, very dark – pretty much black. Pours much thicker than other beers tasted this week. Like a syrup/molasses in thickness. Not much head on this one. Below average carbonation.
Didn’t taste vanilla or chocolate. Slight expresso taste.
Bitter. Bitter aftertaste. I struggled to drink this.
A bit much for my palate.
Not at the top of my list.
Very dark. Very bitter. To me, it’s the flavour of dark roasted coffee beans. The bitterness masks the 9.2% alcohol to a point that it is fairly drinkable. I don’t love it. I think I’d rank it above the day 7 Cuvée, but below yesterday’s Doppelbock.
