Day 8 of Taste-Mas 2014: Lake of Bays Crazy Eyes Winter Bock Lager 750 ml

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Big, rich, dark and creamy, Winter Bock was originally brewed to sustain fasting Bavarian monks. Pours a deep chocolate hue with gentle ruby tones, crested with soft tan foam. The nose is dark chocolate, with a hint of molasses, wood smoke and vanilla. A full-bodied, smooth-sipping extravaganza greets the palate, with a burst of silky cocoa and tiramisu, balanced by hints of toast, peppery spice, and dried fruit. The finish is long and warming, with chocolate tones tailing off into earthier notes like roasted coffee. 750 ml, 8% alc./vol.

A dark, rich colour that pours a creamy light beige head. The taste is quite strong with hints of dark chocolate. Not one of my favourites, but I’m glad we tasted this winter bock.

I love the carbonation in this brew. This lives up to the description perfectly!

It is an enjoyable beer – although I can’t quite taste the peppery tiramisu. 🙂

Dark brown in colour with a sizable head when poured. A bit too strong for my taste.

I thoroughly enjoyed the spring bock but not a big fan of the winter bock lager.

Rich dark colour and a foamy head that stuck around for a while. Hints of dark roast coffee and chocolate in a well-balanced Winter bock. Enjoyable!
