Dark & intriguing as the midnight sky. Cameron’s Obsidian Imperial Porter is loaded with magnificent and robust flavour. Aged for seven months in Caribbean rum barrels, roasted malt and chocolate character abound in this velvety nectarous ale. 650 ml, 9.2% alc./vol.
Well hello rum barrel!!!!
This is a strong beer – and you can definitely taste the rum barrel in all it’s charred oakey goodness!!!
I’m not sure if the roasted malt is giving it the coffee flavour, but it is nice all the same!!
We will see how this bottle ends once it’s a bit warmer!!
I drank this beer in a stemless wine glass so I could see if it made a difference and it certainly did. These dark, high alcohol content beers are really meant to be sipped, like a nice scotch or cognac. Drinking it in the wine glass brought out all the strong flavours and aromas while making the brew easy to drink and enjoy. It is as advertised a very dark beer that pours a caramel head.
I am learning that porters are not my favourite beers. Another dark roasted coffee-tasting beer. This one is stronger than some of the ones that we’ve had, and you can taste the strength. I am glad that I had my father in law and brother in laws to share this with, because I didn’t really enjoy it.
