For the first time ever, YOU get to pick what beer we send to LCBO stores next. Pick up the Nickel Brook Mystery Pack, tell us which beer was your favourite, and we’ll launch the winning beer in the LCBO next spring!
Faced with four cans marked simply A, B, C and D, we want you to sample these beers without being swayed by packaging, tasting notes or marketing copy. Head to nickelbrook.com/mysterypack and vote for your favourite. The people’s choice will be launched in the LCBO in Spring 2018.
We always try to listen to what our fans tell us what they want, and now we can really make it happen. This is the first time (that we know of) that a brewery has directly asked the people who drink their beer what they want on store shelves, and we’re really stoked to have the LCBO on board as well. Which will you choose?
Beer A Stout 473 ml, 4.5% alc./vol.
Pretty standard stout/porter-type beer. In my opinion, many of the ones we had over TasteMas were better than this one. Nice foamy head and coffee colour. Toasty coffee flavour, with a bitter finish that I would prefer weren’t there. I’m not getting any nuanced notes like vanilla or ginger, which I guess made some of the other porters I’ve had seem more palatable. Hoping for better as I move on down the alphabet…
Oh, and I meant to mention that at 4.5%, I feel like it’s on the weak side for a stout.
This was a very standard stout a good clean start with a slightly bitter finish. Nothing that’s offensive at all; but similarly nothing outstanding.
It is a solid brew that has marketability. Is that what Nickel Brook is looking for??
Lets see what B, C, and D bring.
Nice Stout; dark colour, smooth taste and exactly what you would expect a stout to be. They haven’t added any flavours or kicked it up a notch with a higher alcohol content. And, of course, it’s no Guinness, but it’s a good start.
